History
In 1774, the Leurquin farming family, consisting of Jacques Leurquin and Anne-Marie Defalque, built a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Grace in Céroux, as evidenced by the inscription engraved on the blue stone stele of the monument. It seems that Jacques Leurquin built it in memory of his mother, who died in childbirth when he was born in 1743.
The chapel was demolished at the end of the 19th century, but in 1920, Lucien Dessy, Jacques Leurquin’s great-great-grandson and a doctor, restored it and placed a commemorative plaque in memory of his adopted son, Pierre Lannoy. In 1958, the construction of the N275 highway required the chapel to be moved, and it was rebuilt the following year along the new road.
In 2014, the municipality planned a restoration with a regional subsidy dedicated to small heritage sites.
