The Dalhem Tunnel, built in 1904, is a place steeped in history. Stretching 135 meters long, it survived both world wars, during which it was used as a hiding place for resistance fighters and weapons.

The Trimbleu accident
On October 5, 1991, a tourist train — *Li Trimbleu* — composed of a diesel locomotive and three wagons, left Blegny-Mine around 2:35 p.m.
About ten minutes after departure, the driver, having noticed braking problems, left the train to seek help at a nearby farm. The train did not stop despite the use of a brake shoe, and after about a minute, it began moving again with no one at the controls. It went downhill, gaining more and more speed, and eventually derailed. A total of 7 people were killed and 11 injured.
Following this incident, the tunnel was closed to traffic and remained abandoned for nearly 30 years.
