A spectacular suspension bridge between the Ardennes and the Gaume
Ideally located on the border between the Ardennes and the Gaume, right next to France, the town of Florenville is boosting its appeal to tourists. Already known for its exceptional forest landscapes and picturesque villages such as Chassepierre, Martué, Muno, and Sainte-Cécile, the region is now home to an iconic new attraction.
A true gateway to the Semois Valley, the Florenville footbridge invites visitors to literally immerse themselves in the landscape. Suspended between the sky and the forest, this structure offers a unique and breathtaking view of the river, ensuring total immersion in a preserved natural environment.
Hiking and Active Recreation in the Heart of the National Park
More than just a visual attraction, this pedestrian and bicycle bridge stands out as an essential link for sustainable tourism and active recreation in Wallonia. Designed for hikers, families, and cyclists, it directly connects famous long-distance hiking trails, notably the GR16 and GR129 routes.
By connecting the Sainte-Cécile Forest to the Domaine des Épioux, the bridge allows nature lovers to extend their walking routes while discovering the richness of the local flora and fauna. It’s the ideal activity to enhance a nature-focused vacation in Belgium.
A feat of engineering and landscape integration
The project, which required nearly eight years of preparation and two years of construction on particularly steep slopes, represents a true technical challenge. This modern 185-meter-long suspension bridge, suspended 30 meters above the ground, rests on four load-bearing cables firmly anchored in the rock.
Designed by the renowned engineering firm Ney & Partners and built by the contractors De Graeve and Tri-Monta, the lightweight steel structure stands out for its slender profile and high degree of visual transparency. This subtle design preserves the quality of the panoramic views and scrupulously respects the valley’s ecosystem.
