The Hasselt Japanese Garden is the result of a collaboration between the city of Itami (Hyogo, Japan) and Hasselt since 1985. Hasselt presented Itami with a clock tower in November 1991, and Hasselt was offered a Japanese garden, a symbol of friendship.

When is the best time to visit the Japanese Garden of Hasselt?
End of March – beginning of April, when it reopens. It is at this time of year that the Japanese cherry trees bloom, present in large numbers in the garden, which gives a magnificent pink color to the entire park.
If flowering arrives earlier in the year, the Japanese garden reopens its doors a few days or weeks earlier.
