Manneken Pis Geraardsbergen
Grammont - East Flanders
In 1459, residents of Geraardsbergen decided to replace a stolen lion statue with a sculpture of a boy urinating, placed above a fountain. The commission for this sculpture had been issued in 1455.
A lost statue
The current statue of Manneken Pis in the fountain is not the original, it was installed in 1985. The original statue from 1459 is believed to be lost. However, the La Permanensje Museum exhibits an ancient statue of Manneken Pis dating from the 18th century.
