Description
The installation “The Transparent Church of Looz,” also known as “Reading Between the Lines,” is a landscape artwork created in 2011 by the architectural duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh.
Located in the Hesbaye region near Looz, it is built from horizontal Corten steel slats connected by welded squares and rests on a concrete base. The shape of the artwork evokes the archetype of a Western European church. The transparency created by the horizontal slats produces a strange, intriguing effect when approached, allowing visitors to clearly see through the structure.
Access & Parking
The transparent church cannot be accessed by car, and parking is prohibited in the surrounding streets.
A large free parking area is located along the main road, about a ten-minute walk from the artwork, at the corner of Grootloonstraat and Tongersesteenweg. From there, simply cross Sint-Truidersteenweg and follow the signs “Doorkijkkerkje / Reading between the lines.”
