Saint Bavo’s Abbey of Ghent

Saint Bavo’s Abbey was a Benedictine monastery located in Ghent, on the banks of the Lys. Founded by Saint Amand during the Merovingian dynasty, it experienced great prosperity throughout the Middle Ages.
