In 1967, the Arlon Tourist Office launched a search to find the sources of the Semois. These investigations revealed two limestone basins, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, which were once used by local tanneries. In 1972, the City of Arlon inaugurated the development of the Semois springs.

Roman monument
Although nothing dating from Roman times has been discovered at this site, a fragment of a Roman monument depicting a figure drinking has been placed between the two basins to remind visitors of the importance of water, springs, and rivers since ancient times.
