The medieval town of Lo in West Flanders once had four gates, of which only the western one — called the Westpoort — has survived to this day. This gate, dating from the 14th century, is an example of Gothic-style military architecture. Near this gate stands a yew tree that has managed to survive for many centuries. This tree, known as the Caesarsboom, is mentioned in a legend claiming that Julius Caesar rested here and even tied his horse to the tree while traveling toward Great Britain. Its exact age cannot be determined.
