History
Spa, a spa town long renowned for its springs and the healing properties of its thermal waters. It enjoyed particular popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and since the beginning of the 21st century, the town has been experiencing a spa revival.
A funicular railway was built to connect the town center to the new, ultra-modern thermal baths built on the “Annette et Lubin” hill. Work began in 2002 and was completed in 2004.
Features
The Spa funicular railway is fully automated, from ticket purchase to cabin control. It is equipped with landing doors and connects the Place Royale in Spa to the spa center built on the “Annette et Lubin” hill, which is about 100 meters higher.
Although it is called a “funicular,” it functions more like an elevator, with two independent cabins that do not counterbalance each other. One of the cabins and its route are reserved for spa guests at the “Blu Radisson” hotel, which sponsored the construction of the funicular. The other cabin is open to the public for a fee of €1.50 for a one-way trip. The ascent takes about 2 minutes and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The funicular reaches its terminus inside the spa center itself.
