Description
Pairi Daiza is a zoological and botanical park located in Brugelette, renowned for the exceptional quality of its décor, the richness of its biodiversity, and the scale of its themed worlds. Spanning more than 75 hectares, the park offers deep immersion into worlds inspired by Asia, Africa, Australia, and the polar regions, featuring impressive architectural reconstructions and habitats designed with animal welfare in mind.
History
The park is built on the grounds of the former Cistercian abbey of Cambron. Opened in 1993 under the name Paradiso, it gradually evolved into Pairi Daiza, meaning “the enclosed garden” in Persian. Over the years, it has transformed into a unique thematic park in Europe, blending architectural heritage, world gardens, and rare animal species. Pairi Daiza regularly receives international awards, particularly for its elephant, panda, and big cat habitats.
The Themed Worlds
Pairi Daiza is divided into immersive worlds, each dedicated to a culture or region of the world. These areas combine natural landscapes, traditional architecture, and region-specific wildlife.
- The Land of the Cold: polar bears, walruses, Siberian tigers
- The Kingdom of Ganesha: Asian elephants, Balinese temples
- The Last Frontier: brown bears, wolves, sea lions
- The City of Immortals: giant pandas, Chinese architecture
- African Village: rhinos, giraffes, zebras, African birds
- Cambron Abbey: birds, gardens, historic ruins
- Cambron the Dream World: nocturnal species and botanical areas
Each world offers spectacular staging, with temples, bridges, waterfalls, bamboo forests, deserts, and recreated plains.
