Last weekend, motorsports enthusiasts gathered to witness one of Belgium’s most spectacular and thrilling events: the Andler Hill Climb’s “Impossible Climb.” This event, which takes place in the small village of Andler, near Saint-Vith, attracts participants and spectators from all over Europe. The Impossible Climb, or “Hill Climb” in English, is an extreme off-road motorcycle discipline in which riders must climb a particularly steep and technical hill. But despite this, very few riders manage to reach the summit, which makes each attempt all the more exciting for spectators.
The Andler-Schönberg Impossible Climb was launched in 1999, inspired by similar events in France and the United States. What began as a small gathering of enthusiasts quickly became a must-attend event on the Belgian motorsports calendar.
Located in the municipality of Saint-Vith, the village of Andler offers the ideal setting for this competition. After a first edition in Malmedy, the competition moved to this small village, just a few meters from the German border, which features a former quarry that is now closed. It’s the perfect place to test the drivers’ skills and the endurance of their machines.
Over the years, the event has grown in popularity, attracting participants not only from Belgium but also from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, and Poland, among other countries. Each edition brings improvements, both in terms of organization and audience enthusiasm, making the event even more spectacular.
